BATON ROUGE – Louisiana State University (LSU), LoneStar Community College (LSC) and the Sampoerna University will enter into a joint agreement to deliver a United States (US) accredited engineering degree program in Jakarta, Indonesia beginning as early as Fall 2015.

Through an articulation agreement with SACSCOC accredited Lone Star Community College, students who satisfactorily complete the LSC pre-engineering associate degree program will be granted admission to the LSU engineering programs in computer science, electrical engineering, industrial engineering or mechanical engineering offered at the Sampoerna University campus in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Lone Star Community College paved the way for this partnership through a cooperative agreement to establish the first accredited U.S. Associate Degree program offered in Indonesia at Sampoerna University. Students participating in the program will receive a U.S. Associate degree after completing the requirments of LSC international academic program curriculum at the Sampoerna University campus.

“We are excited to partner with the Putera Sampoerna Foundation to expand and internationalize our engineering program,” said LSU President & Chancellor F. King Alexander. “We live in a global economy and having an international engineering program will provide unique learning opportunities for students in both Indonesia and in Louisiana.”

HE Robert Blake, the US Ambassador for the Republic of Indonesia particpated in a cermonial signing late last month. “Education is a top priority of the US Mission to Indonesia, and is a key component of the US-Indonesia Comprehensive Partnership. Greater cooperation between Indonesian and US universities advances educational and bilateral relationships that move forward the full scope of our wide cooperation, directly benefit Indonesian students, and is a real win-win for both of our countries,” said HE Robert Blake.

“Indonesia requires quality human resources capable of competing globally. The Putera Sampoerna Foundation continuously provides support for innovations in education and in providing affordable international education. We believe the LSU-LSC- Sampoerna University partnership is part of Putera Sampoerna Foundation’s effort to create high caliber future leaders in order to build a better Indonesia,” said Nenny Soemawinata, managing director, Putera Sampoerna Foundation.

Sampoerna University’s academic collaborations will be registered at the Ministry of Education and Culture, Directorate General of Higher Education (DIKTI) in accordance with the laws and statutes of the Republic of Indonesia. DIKTI encourages strategic alliances for curriculum and faculty development through collaborations between Indonesian universities and foreign higher education institutions.
