ECE Student Addresses Graduates at Engineering Diploma Ceremony
January 3, 2010
Gaynelle Brown, an Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) senior from Garyville, Louisiana, was chosen to address the College of Engineering graduates at the College's Diploma Ceremony on Dec. 18 in the Maddox Fieldhouse.
A graduate herself, Brown was able to speak directly to her peers, recalling significant events that helped each of them achieve this accomplishment. Brown stressed the importance of remembering this moment, the events that led to and surrounded it, and future challenges they have yet to face. "Remember your past and all that you have been through, and use your education as a universal toolkit to seize the opportunities to create a perfect future with a lasting impact," said Brown to the College of Engineering graduates.
Brown, the Shell scholarship recipient and a member of both the Society of Women Engineers and the National Society of Black Engineers, has completed internships with PPG Industries and Marathon Petroleum Company. "It's a true pleasure to see an Electrical and Computer Engineering student represent all students in the engineering field on an important day such as this," said ECE Interim Chairman Jorge Aravena. Brown has accepted a position with Marathon Petroleum in Garyville.
