Dr. David Norton has accepted the position of Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Programs at the University of Florida. Norton studied under Dr. Pratul Ajmera and earned his PhD from LSU in 1989. His dissertation was judged a co-winner of the LSU Alumni Distinguished Dissertation Award in April, 1990. Norton has since been a Postdoctoral Fellow at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, earning a position as a Research Staff Member in 1991. In August of 2000, he became a full professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Florida. Norton has been published over 300 times in various journals for his research and is the Associate Editor of the Journal of Crystal Growth.

“In my eight years in academia, I have learned that the successes of the students we mentor are some of the more satisfying aspects of the vocation,” explains Norton. A proud Dr. Ajmera congratulates Dr. Norton on his fine work and his new appointment.
