Marathon Oil Achieving Excellence with LSU

Marathon Oil Company made a significant financial contribution of $850,000 that will support several key programs and initiatives in the Office of Diversity Programs. Marathon has a history of supporting LSU through the departments of Geology and Geophysics, Petroleum Engineering, Chemical Engineering and the Minority Engineering Program. Over the next four years, the following focus areas will be supported in the name of Marathon Oil Company:
- Marathon High School Teacher Engineering Awareness Program
- Marathon Engineering Diversity Undergraduate Scholarships
- Marathon Engineering Diversity Graduate Fellowships
- Marathon Diversity Awareness in Engineering Education Seminar Series
Marathon Petroleum, a division of Marathon Oil, and Division Manager Rich Bedell, hosted a luncheon on Friday, January 30th to show Marathon’s ongoing support of the College of Engineering. He also distributed Marathon’s annual gift to LSU, benefitting these CoE departments and programs: Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and the Minority Engineering Program.
Attending the luncheon were Steven H. Baker, Andrew W. Maverick, William Kepner, Rich Bedell, and Noelle Blackwell of Marathon Oil Corporation. From LSU, the following College of Engineering representatives attended: Department Chair for the Gordon A. & Mary Cain Department of Chemical Engineering Kalliat T. Valsaraj, LSU Minority Engineering Program Coordinator Julie Harris, Faculty Programs & Development Coordinator Akilah Taylor, Interim Department Chair for Mechanical Engineering Dimitris E. Nikitopoulos, and College of Engineering Associate Dean for Diversity Programs Kelly A. Rusch.
