CM Students Build Reputation at 2009 International Home Builders Show
January 20, 2009
LSU’s College of Engineering Construction Management students placed eighth in the Residential Construction Management competition at the International Home Builders Show. This is the first time in ten years that LSU has participated in the competition. Team members Robert Carroll, Gerald Bordelon, Chris Fox, Ashley Sutton, and Joseph Aguillard, along with Dr. Isabelina Nahmens, assistant professor in the Department of Construction Management and Industrial Engineering (CMIE), traveled to Las Vegas to compete against 36 other universities. Although only five members were able to attend the competition- Tyler Tramonte, Reid Roubin, Jared Kingsley, and Jacob Mathis are the other team members- together, the team spent months researching and working on estimation and project management to prepare for the competition.
“I am proud of all of the hard work they put in. They did a great job and had a great placement considering they were the first LSU team to compete in many years. They clearly raised the bar for teams to come,” said Nahmens. “The LSU Construction Management Program now has a foundation to build on so the next group of students will have the advantage of competing in future competitions,” said Fox. At the show, students were exposed to the latest home building technology and experienced real issues of the industry. As future builders, this knowledge is crucial to improve the home building industry.
Special thanks go to the Capital Region Builders Association, Construction Industry Advisory Council, LSU CMIE Department, The Lemoine Company, Sandy Scallan, and the Construction Students Association for their contribution of support and resources to enable the students to participate in the competition.
