2008 Areas of Specialization Online

The LSU College of Engineering (CoE) Faculty & Staff Areas of Specialization directory (AoS), is published and updated each year by the Office of Development. It contains names, titles, educational background, contact information, and professional specialties for all full-time, non-adjunct CoE faculty and staff. This directory is an effective resource, providing information from official contacts to targeted research to email and phone numbers.
In an effort to better serve faculty and staff while being conscious of effectively utilizing resources, the Office of Development conducted a survey of all CoE faculty and staff, to gather opinions on the option of producing AoS online.
The survey asked how often and for what purposes people use the AoS directory, and how they would prefer it to be organized and published. The results indicate that over 50 percent prefer an online, electronic distribution. In order to reduce costs while increasing user friendliness, the Development Office will publish the AoS directory electronically. The online directory will be posted on the CoE website in PDF format, which is searchable. It will be printable by department and by page. In addition, a small print run will provide each department with one “hard copy” of the AoS directory. Not only will this reduce printing costs and enhance the usability of the directory, but the new process will make it easier to update with changes to staff data so users will have the most accurate information available--without having to wait for a new print run. The new policy also promotes and contributes to the CoE’s goal of greener administration through digitalization, reducing our carbon footprint and saving trees and paper in the process.In an effort to keep you up to date on the most current information that pertains to the College, AoS will be revised in September 2008. Please note that AoS will only have a limited printing for distribution; instead, it will be available online and easily accessible from the CoE home page under Faculty and Staff at http://www.eng.lsu.edu/facstaff/.
CoE faculty and staff are reminded that, to help the Development Office stay on top of changes, please make sure that the the College has a recent photo and is apprised of any changes to AoS information as soon as those changes are official.
