Leadership LSU is a highly selective program that prepares soon-to-be graduates for potential leadership roles in their future communities. At the end of the semester, they attend another mandatory retreat to mark the end of the program. Biological Engineering Student Named to Tiger Twelve

Paige Brown, a biological engineering major graduating in May, is from Indianapolis, Ind. Brown is a member of the LSU Swimming and Diving Team, an experienced gymnastics and diving coach and an active participant in the Cox Center CHAMPS program. She is conducting research with Todd Monroe and Julianne Forman on "The Microfabrication and Testing of Apoptosis Detection Microchip."

Twelve of LSU’s potential graduates were named members of the Tiger Twelve Class of 2008 by the LSU Office of the Dean of Students. The reception honoring the 12 students was held on April 27 at the LSU Faculty Club.

The Tiger Twelve recognizes student leaders for their efforts on campus and in the community. Selection is based on the principles articulated in LSU’s Commitment to Community, which was adopted as a “Statement of University Position” for the university community in 1995.

Recipients must "contribute positively to the life of the campus and surrounding community"; must hold themselves to the "highest standards of academic, personal and social integrity"; must "practice justice, equality and compassion in human relations"; and must "respect the dignity of all persons and accept individual differences." This award recognizes graduates who are current, full-time students and who have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5.

Nominations were accepted from the university community, and a committee selected the final 12 from a pool of more than 200 nominees.
