LSU held its 265th commencement exercise on Friday, May 16, conferring undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate degrees for approximately 3,247 students. The main ceremony was held in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center and individual colleges held separate diploma ceremonies at various locations around the Baton Rouge campus. Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal delivered the commencement address.

The College of Engineering (CoE) held its diploma ceremony at the Maddox Field House, where 311 graduates received their diplomas, including 19 students who earned summa cum laude, 9 magna cum laude and 10 cum laude honors. The table below lists CoE’s 2008 honor graduates with the corresponding range of grade point averages (GPAs).

In addition to the honor graduates, three CoE students received University Medals for graduating with the highest undergraduate grade-point averages. University Medalists were recognized at a special ceremony at the LSU Faculty Club on Thursday, May 15. The University Medal was awarded to Megan E. Drewes (CE), Matthew J. Stephens (ChE), Gordon F. Wadge (BAE) for maintaining a perfect cumulative GPA of 4.0. These same three students, along with Purujit Saha (ECE), also received the College of Engineering’s Edward McLaughlin Dean’s Medal of Excellence, which is bestowed upon the graduates with the highest GPAs among CoE graduates. The award commemorates McLaughlin’s 28-year LSU career as professor, researcher, department chair and dean.
