George Daniels Honored for Supporting Chemical Engineering

George Daniels, a 1963 LSU Chemical Engineering graduate, was recently honored for his continued generosity and support of LSU engineering students, faculty and staff at a special ceremony at the LSU Faculty Club on August 6.
Daniels’ most recent commitment is a planned gift with LSU as a named beneficiary. This planned gift could total approximately $2 million at its maturation and is earmarked to support the George A. Daniels Graduate Fellowships in Chemical Engineering. Daniels has also contributed $200,000 to the LSU Department of Chemical Engineering’s new building project, which figures to greatly expand and improve one of LSU’s premiere academic programs.
“The College of Engineering, specifically the Gordon A. and Mary Cain Department of Chemical Engineering, sincerely appreciates the support of George Daniels in these areas of critical need,” said David Constant, interim dean for the LSU College of Engineering. “Having support for graduate students and the development of new facilities are both key components in advancing the LSU College of Engineering.”
Daniels received his undergraduate degree in chemical engineering in 1955 from the University of Kansas, his home state. He received his Master of Science degree in chemical engineering from LSU in 1963. Daniels currently works for the Albemarle Corporation. He is a member of the LSU Chemical Engineering Campaign Steering Committee, the 1860 Society, and is a founding member of the Society for Engineering Excellence.
“I have taken this action to share in my success as a chemical engineer and as an investor, and to provide opportunities for others,” said Daniels. “It should be noted that I have funded an undergraduate scholarship at the University of Kansas in a similar manner.”
Daniels’ contributions support the goals of the Forever LSU Campaign, a university-wide effort to raise more than $750 million in support for LSU by the end of the year 2010. To find out more about the campaign for LSU’s future or to support the College of Engineering, visit www.foreverlsu.org.
