At a check presentation on Friday, August 24, the LSU Foundation received a $134,000 philanthropic donation from Shell Oil Company, from which $64,000 was designated specifically for Departments in the College of Engineering. College of Engineering Dean Zaki Bassiouni joined LSU officials in welcoming Liesl Leopard, LSU campus manager for Shell, as well as other Shell representatives. As part of her presentation Leopard spoke how “LSU and Shell are on same track to meet future challenges through recruiting top students in the field.” Following the reception, specific Departments met with Shell representatives to discuss future collaborative efforts to benefit students and faculty.
  • Chemical Engineering was given $20,000 for the refurbishment and upgrade of the ChE laboratory and computing equipment.
  • Electrical Engineering received $5,000 to be used for upgrades to three workstations for digital and power laboratories.
  • Mechanical Engineering (ME) received $20,000 for continued support for the ME graduate program and to continue an existing program for internships with Shell.
  • The Minority Engineering Program will use their $14,000 donation to fund Recruitment into Engineering of High Ability Multi-Cultural Students (REHAMS), a summer program for talented high school minority students with an aptitude for engineering.
  • Petroleum Engineering was given $5,000 to assist with a production lab class of RTC instructors, and to help support senior projects by providing funds for design and computer support.
