Dr. Levitan awarded the 2007 LSU Alumni Association Faculty Excellence Award

Marc L. Levitan, Charles P. Seiss, Jr. Professor and Associate Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering, has been awarded the 2007 LSU Alumni Association Faculty Excellence Award. This award recongnizes faculty members for their outstanding teaching and research, and/or service. The recipient receives a one-time cash award of $1,000 from the LSU Alumni Association.
Since joining LSU in 1993, Dr. Levitan has been the lead investigator or co-investigator on more than 30 funded projects totaling over $2.5 million. He has several dozen publications in journals, conference proceedings, and other venues. He was the driving force behind the creation of the new LSU Hurricane Center. In 1999, Levitan was named the Center’s director, a position he still holds.
Levitan received his Ph.D. from Texas Tech University in 1993. His areas of specialization include hurricane engineering, wind engineering, wind loads on industrial and petrochemical structures, design for natural hazards, and hurricane evacuation and sheltering.Article by Justin Schexnayder, LSU College of Engineering, 225-578-7373, jsche19@lsu.edu.
