College Initiatives Promotion Professorships

In support of the advancement of College of Engineering initiatives, Dean Zaki Bassiouni has announced a new professorship program. The College Initiatives Promotion Professorships are awarded by the Dean to assistant, associate, or full professors, recommended by each department. Faculty submit a one-page proposal listing which college initiatives will be promoted, the promotion approach and an assessment method to be used in measuring the effectiveness of the promotion. The professorship will be awarded for one year, but is renewable. A stipend of $5,000 will be made available to be used for activities related to the initiative promoted. The stipend may be used for non-pensionable salary supplement.The top four initiatives in the College of Engineering include:
- Recruitment and retention (STEP Project)
- Incorporation of communication in courses
- Incorporation of and emphasizing critical thinking in courses
- Strengthening ABET outcomes in courses
Approved by the LSU Board of Supervisors at their October 5th meeting, the new College Initiatives Promotion Professorships proposed for the 2007-2008 academic year will be:
Civil & Environmental Engineering
- Radhey Sharma - Roy Paul Daniels Professorship
- Chester Wilmot - Louisiana Land & Exploration Company Professorship
Mechanical Engineering
- Michael Murphy - Roy O. Martin Lumber Company Professorship
Biological & Agricultural Engineering
- W. Todd Monroe - Mr. & Mrs. C. W. Armstrong, Jr. Professorship
- Marybeth Lima - Occidental Chemical Corporation Professorship
Construction Management & Industrial Engineering
- Craig Harvey - Wilbur D. & Camille V. Fugler, Jr. Professorship
