Bassiouni Receives International Petroleum Engineering Award

Zaki Bassiouni, Dean of the College of Engineering and Bert S. Turner Distinguished Professor, has been selected to receive the 2006 Formation Evaluation Award by the International Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE). The Formation Evaluation Award recognizes outstanding achievements in or contributions to the advancement of petroleum engineering in the area of formation evaluation, encompassing core analysis, well logging and petrophysics. Bassiouni will receive the award at the SPE Annual Awards Banquet on September 25, which is a featured event of the 2006 Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition in San Antonio, Texas.
Bassiouni was named dean of the College of Engineering in 2004 following a 21-year stint as chairman of the Craft and Hawkins Department of Petroleum Engineering. He has been a distinguished lecturer for the Society of Petroleum Engineers and is a registered professional engineer in the state of Louisiana.
He received his Ph.D. from Lille University, France in 1972. His areas of specialization include well logging, petrophysics, reservoir engineering and improved oil and gas recovery.
