Dr. Wen Jen Meng, an associate professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department, has been promoted to the rank of professor. Dr. Meng received his Ph.D. from the California Institute of Technology and specializes in plasma-based materials synthesis, thin film nanocomposite materials and surface modification.

Dr. Chris White, a Ph.D. graduate from Standford University, who specializes in reservoir engineering and characterization, applied mathematics and computer programming, has been promoted with tenure to the rank of associate professor within the Craft & Hawkins Department of Petroleum Engineering. Dr. Clint Wilson in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering has also been promoted with tenure to the rank of associate professor. Dr. Wilson is a Ph.D. graduate of the University of Texas, Austin, and specializes in environmental fluid mechanics, multiphase flow porous media, waste site assessment and remediation technologies.

Finally, Dr. Ernest Mendrela, with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Dr. Muhammad Wahab, with the Department of Mechanical Engineering, have received tenure. Dr. Mendrela specializes in electromechanical energy conversion, electric machines, variable speed drives, and electromagnetic field in electromechanical devices. He received his Ph.D. from Wroclaw University of Technology in Poland and his D.Sc. at Lodz University of Technology also in Poland. Dr. Wahab, an associate professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department, received his Ph.D. from the University of Alberta in 1984. He specializes in fatigue and fracture mechanics, and stress analysis.
