Engineer, Comedian & a Tiger Twelve
May 10, 2005
The College of Engineering’s Omar Eruch Parbhoo, a resident of Baton Rouge, was chosen as one of the Office of the Dean of Students’ Class of 2005 Tiger Twelve – a group of students chosen for their contribution to campus and community life aiding LSU in its commitment to the community. Omar, a computer engineering student, will graduate in May 2005.
Omar believes he was chosen, “Not only because I have been committed to community service, but also because I have contributed to the community in many different and original ways. I always tried to find creative ways to make the most of my talents and to give back to the campus,” he said.
Omar has many fond memories of LSU; one of his favorites includes being involved with Making It UP Improv Competition where he performed for hundreds of LSU students as a comedian. “It was important to me to be an example for other engineers and show them that we don’t have to fit into the very tight mold set for us,” he said. Omar is most fond of his service on the College of Engineering’s Engineering Council. As the Council’s treasurer, he worked closely with the College’s administration and student body.
An active member of Rotaract of LSU, the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, and the International Committee among others, Omar has found the perfect balance between school and society. LSU and the College of Engineering are proud of Omar’s accomplishments and anxiously awaiting his future achievements. In a message to other students, he said, “Engineers are rarely involved in campus wide events and organizations, and I think that should change.”
