Dr. Marybeth Lima, associate professor, Biological and Agricultural Engineering Department, has received the 2005 Ernest A. Lynton Award for Faculty Professional Service and Academic Outreach. Sponsored by the New England Resource Center for Higher Education (NERCHE), the annual Ernest A. Lynton Award for Faculty Professional Service and Academic Outreach recognizes a faculty member who connects his or her expertise and scholarship to community outreach. Unlike traditional service-learning awards that focus on the link between teaching and service, the Lynton Award emphasizes the connection more broadly to incorporate professional service and academic outreach.

"Dr. Marybeth Lima's commitment to excellence is evidenced by this prestigious award, as is her dedication to teaching, research, and professional service. We take pride in the accomplishments of our bright and talented faculty members such as Dr. Lima, who are an asset to the College as well as the University," said Zaki Bassiouni, Dean of the College of Engineering & Bert S. Turner Distinguished Professor.

Named after the founding member of NERCHE, the Ernest A. Lynton Award for Faculty Professional Service and Academic Outreach has received nominations from over 500 faculty members from every institutional type and location and from a broad range of departments and disciplines.

Founded in 1988, the New England Resource Center for Higher Education (NERCHE) is dedicated to improving colleges and universities as workplaces, communities and organizations.
