Interim Chemical Engineering Chair Named

Dr. Kalliat T. Valsaraj, Ike East Professor in Chemical Engineering, has been named interim chair of the Gordon A. & Mary Cain Department of Chemical Engineering. He received his Ph.D. from Vanderbilt University in 1983 and has over 18 years of service to the University. Valsaraj has four books, 21 book chapters, two patents, and 125 referred publications to his credit. His areas of specialization include applied surface chemistry, environmental engineering, and mass transfer separation process.
Professor F. Carl Knopf has successfully completed thee terms as chair of the Chemical Engineering Department and has led the department well for the past seven years. He will continue to provide a critical service to the department.
A search for a permanent chair will begin immediately.
