Pre-College Programs
Diversity Ambassadors
In the Fall of 2009, the Office for Diversity Programs sought out to create a student organization that would introduce K-12 students to the field of engineering and the opportunities it presents. The intent was to inspire the next generation of diverse engineering students. With the help of Office for Diversity Programs' students, the Diversity Ambassadors organization was established.
The mission of the Diversity Ambassadors is to:
- Increase diversity in engineering
- Increase interest in science, technology, engineering and math related fields
- Positively serve and impact the community
- Provide positive role models for minority and female K-12 students
In an effort to engineering awareness and the LSU College of Engineering diversity recruitment and retention efforts, the LSU College of Engineering Diversity Ambassadors encourage K-12 school students to become engineers by visiting schools in the Baton Rouge community. Diversity Ambassadors serve as role models, mentors, and tutors while conducting engineering demonstrations, hands-on activities and discipline talks. Diversity Ambassadors (DA) are comprised of undergraduate and graduate engineering students from various engineering disciplines.
