Marathon Oil Company: Achieving Excellence Together

Marathon Oil Company made a significant financial contribution in the amount of $850,000 that will support several key programs and initiatives in the Office of Diversity Programs. Marathon has a proud and generous history supporting LSU through the Departments of Geology and Geophysics, Petroleum Engineering, Chemical Engineering and the Minority Engineering Program. We are most honored that over the next four-years, the following 5 focus areas will be supported in the name of Marathon Oil Company:
- 2010 Marathon High School Teacher Engineering Awareness Program - This engineering program for teachers is intended to aid educators in the pursuit of understanding engineering and developing curriculum strategies that support and strengthen science, technology, engineering and mathematics understanding and interest in high school classroom. The 2010 Teacher's Program will be held June 7-11. In 2009, The teachers studied topics such as Using Engineering Notebooks, the Design Process, Sketching, Wind Turbines, Rainwater Harvesting, Simple Machines, and more!

- Marathon Engineering Diversity Undergraduate Scholarships - The scholarship was awarded to five talented, underserved and underrepresented students whose engineering majors are consistent with Marathon's recruiting needs. The scholarship is an average award of $5000 per year for four years. The following students were awarded the scholarship:

- Marathon Engineering Diversity Graduate Fellowships - Congratulations to Heather Dylla and Jodi Boutte’ for receiving a Marathon Engineering Diversity Graduate Fellowships. Both Heather and Jodi are Ph.D. candidates in the Engineering Science-Construction Management Department.
Marathon Engineering Diversity Graduate Fellowship Application - Marathon Diversity Awareness in Engineering Education Seminar Series - The seminar series will continue for the 2009-2010 school year, and began with a meeting Friday August 21, 2009 to welcome Dean Richard Koubeck and present upcoming opportunities. Overall goal is to provided workshops and speakers for graduate students and post-doctoral researchers that develop cultural competency teach active learning strategies for the classroom and assist Ph.D. students and post-doctoral researchers in becoming future faculty.
