Marathon Oil Company: Achieving Excellence Together

Marathon Oil Company made a significant financial contribution in the amount of $850,000 that will support several key programs and initiatives in the Office of Diversity Programs. Marathon has a proud and generous history supporting LSU through the Departments of Geology and Geophysics, Petroleum Engineering, Chemical Engineering and the Minority Engineering Program. We are most honored that Marathon Oil Company will support 5 focus areas over the four years. This includes Marathon Engineering Diversity Undergraduate Scholarships awarded to five talented, underserved and underrepresented students whose engineering majors are consistent with Marathon's recruiting needs. The scholarship is an average award of $5000 per year for four years.

Leadership Workshops and Special Events

Many corporate partners have provided support for activities and professional development for the diverse engineering student at LSU and to the affliated student organizations. ConocoPhillips provided funding for leadership development in the 2010-2011 academic year.

STEM-ENG2 Scholars for Success

NSF LogoThe mission and goal of the S-STEM: ENG^2 Scholars for Success program is to provide women and minorities additional financial resources and support to be successful in engineering. The program has also helped the college of engineering to recruit and attract talented but financially needy students from other states who might not have had the opportunity to attend LSU. For the 2010-2011 academic year 30  sophomore, junior and seniors  are supported with scholarships and services.

  • The cornerstone of the S-STEM scholar program is a professional skills seminar series entitled Engineering for Success . This program is designed to promote professional and personal growth as well as to highlight the value in working with people who have diverse interest, backgrounds and ideas.

    Topics for the series include:

    • Career Management
    • Communications Skills
    • Academic Improvement
    • Building Engineering Experience
    • Community Service and Leadership
    • Life Balance Matters

Additionally, the program highlights engineering alumni and  a national motivational speaker.
