Alliances
"Alliances have become an integral part of contemporary strategic thinking." - Fortune Magazine
The Office for Diversity Programs enjoys the privilege of partnering with key national organizations that are working to address the critical shortfall in the production of minority engineering talent. These strategic relationships provide students with increased, unique employment opportunities and the means to continue their education beyond the bachelor degree.
National Action Council for Minorities in Engineering (NACME)
Since 1974, NACME (the National Action Council for Minorities in Engineering) has provided leadership and support for the national effort to increase the representation of successful African American, American Indian and Latino women and men in engineering and technology, math- and science-based careers. Louisiana State University is one of 49 NACME partnering institutions working to meet these challenges. In May, the Diversity Programs staff attended the annual symposium and partner meeting in McLean Va. For the 2010-2011 academic year, the Office for Diversity Programs will provide students with $142,250 in NACME Associate Scholarship support.

The National GEM Consortium
The National GEM Consortium is addressing the critical shortfall in the production of American engineering and scientific talent. Our model, a working partnership between academia and industry, is strategic and proven with more than three decades of results. As a nonprofit corporation, our core business is providing graduate fellowships in engineering and science to highly qualified individuals from communities where human capital is virtually untapped.

BP Four Star Initiative - Diversity and Inclusion Partner
BP America has embarked on a more strategic and targeted approach to develop their diversity pipeline and workforce through several universities and student organizations. In the spring of 2010, the LSU College of Engineering’s Office for Diversity Programs and several diversity student organizations were selected to join BP America’s Diversity Partnership. BP strategy includes the development of meaningful relationships with student-run organizations, as well as with faculty and the administration. BP has formed a strong strategic partnership with the LSU chapters of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) and the Society of Women Engineers (SWE). LSU is one of the four institutions selected across the United States: Georgia Technical Institute, the University of Michigan, and, collectively, three historically black colleges and universities located in the Atlanta, Georgia area: Morehouse College, Spelman College, and Clark Atlanta University. Although BP will continue to target and recruit talented diverse students across the country, there will be a heightened level of attention placed on the selected college campuses.
Black Faculty and Staff Caucus at LOUISIANA STATE UNIVERSITY AND AGRICULTURAL AND MECHANICAL COLLEGE
The BFSC serves the special needs of African American employees by promoting understanding of African American concerns and providing assistance, education, and social interaction for the employees. In the past few years, the BFSC has focused on infrastructure, student development, and working with the University in meeting the goals of both the institution and BFSC. They sponsor the annual BLACK SCHOLARS AWARDS PROGRAM that recognizes black undergraduate and graduate scholars who have achieved academic excellence at LSU.
