J. Howard Rambin, Jr.
When J. Howard Rambin joined Texaco in 1935 as a roustabout, he was a young, relatively inexperienced engineer (B. S. in petroleum engineering from LSU in 1934). He retired as chairman of the Board and chief executive officer of the company in 1970.
Mr. Rambin's professional contributions are highlighted by his continuously increasing technical and managerial responsibilities during his thirty-five year career with Texaco. He also served as a member of the Board of Freeport Sulphur Company and of the American Petroleum Institute.
The specific impact on Louisiana of Mr. Rambin's tenure is best summarized by the person nominating Mr. Rambin for the Hall of Distinction: "During his period of responsibility for oil and gas production in this region, Texaco made large-scale investments in producing, building pipelines, and marketing natural gas in Louisiana. Texaco not only found and produced the natural gay, and arranged to build pipelines and deliver the gas to the customers' locations in Louisiana. By this comprehensive development program, Texaco under Howard Rambin's direction was the prime mover in the development of the petrochemical industry in Louisiana."
